The company was founded in 1980, when SDS RELAIS Italia, specialised in the production of miniaturised relays, was absorbed into the Automation Controls division of the Japanese multinational Matsushita. Over the course of 25 years, the company called Matsushita Electric Works Italia has progressively expanded its NAiS branded product line and is now able to offer a substantially complete range of components and systems for industrial automation.

Since 1 October 2004, following the unification of the two groups Matsushita Electric Works and Matsushita Electric Industry into a single holding company, namely Matsushita Electric Industry (now Panasonic Electric Industry), the product brands of the various industrial and commercial divisions were unified into a single worldwide Panasonic brand.

Since 1 April 2005, the company names of the group companies have also changed, so Matsushita Electric Works Italia srl has taken the name PANASONIC ELECTRIC WORKS ITALIA srl. The company is now among the top European companies of the group of the same name in terms of turnover. Since January 1, 2012 Panasonic Electric Works Italia has become the sales agency of Panasonic Electric Works Europe, the European headquarters of the AIS (Automotive & Industrial Devices) division of Panasonic Corporation. It has a solid internal structure with specialised personnel and laboratories for pre- and post-sales services and is present on the national territory with a network of agencies and technicians located in the main industrial areas.
